Trustpilot scores and Defaqto ratings checked 25 September 2026. Trustpilot scores are for the insurer's public UK profile, which for some brands covers all their products, not just health insurance. Defaqto ratings are shown only where the insurer publishes them for that plan; "Not published" means we couldn't confirm a rating — not that the plan is poor. Prices are indicative starting points, not quotes. Other details summarise our insurer reviews; always check the policy documents.

Questions and answers

What is a Defaqto rating?

Defaqto is an independent financial research company that rates insurance products from 1 to 5 stars based on the breadth and quality of their features and benefits. A 5-star rating means a plan offers one of the most comprehensive levels of cover in the market. It measures the product's features, not price or customer service.

What does the Trustpilot score tell me?

Trustpilot scores reflect reviews left by customers on the Trustpilot website, so they're a guide to customer experience such as service and claims handling. Bear in mind that some insurers' Trustpilot profiles cover all their products (car, home, life and so on), not just health insurance, and that people are more likely to review after a very good or very bad experience.

Why does a plan say 'Not published' for its Defaqto rating?

We only show a Defaqto rating where we could confirm it from the insurer's own published information for that specific plan. 'Not published' means we couldn't confirm one — it doesn't mean the plan is rated poorly or unrated. A specialist can confirm current ratings when comparing quotes.

Which insurer is best?

There isn't one best insurer for everyone. The right choice depends on your age, where you live, your medical history, your budget and which benefits matter to you, such as mental health cover, direct access or a protected no-claims discount. Use this tool to shortlist, then get quotes compared against your own circumstances.

Are the prices in the table what I'll pay?

No — they're indicative starting prices for a typical profile, to help you compare the shape of the market. Your actual premium depends on your age, postcode, excess, cover options and underwriting. A free quote gives you real prices.
