"From" and guide prices as published by each provider, checked October 2026. Your final price depends on your surgeon, the technique, the hospital and what's included, so always ask for a written, all-inclusive quote.
What affects the price?
- The surgeon and hospital: experienced surgeons and central London hospitals usually charge more.
- The technique: more extensive procedures, or combining procedures, cost more.
- Anaesthetic and stay: general anaesthetic and overnight stays add to the cost compared with local anaesthetic, day-case surgery.
- What's included: check whether the consultation, implants or garments, follow-up appointments and any revision surgery are in the price.
Recovery
There's no NHS guidance page for this procedure. Spire says most patients return to work after a couple of weeks.
Will the NHS or health insurance pay?
Usually not. The NHS says cosmetic surgery isn't routinely provided, though it may occasionally be offered for physical or psychological health reasons. Reconstructive surgery, for example after a mastectomy, is often available on the NHS.
Private medical insurance also excludes cosmetic surgery. Some policies do pay for surgery to restore appearance after an accident or cancer treatment. Bupa, for example, covers eligible restorative operations after an accident, cancer surgery or preventive surgery. Read more in our cancer cover guide.
Choosing a surgeon safely
- Check your surgeon is on the GMC register. Only registered doctors can perform cosmetic surgery in England.
- Check the hospital or clinic is registered with the CQC (in England). You can find CQC-rated private hospitals in our private hospitals directory.
- Some surgeons hold Royal College of Surgeons cosmetic surgery certification, a national standard for specific procedures.
- Your consultation should be with the surgeon who will operate, and you should be given time to think before you agree (a cooling-off period).
- Don't pay before your consultation, and be wary of time-limited deals or pressure to book immediately.
